Two places, one preference

Both places, in plain words

South Carolina near Myrtle Trace, or New Jersey — you own the home and the land either way.

You are weighing two real places. South Carolina centers on Conway and Myrtle Trace: quieter ranch living inland of the Grand Strand, with Conway Medical Center nearby and the Riverwalk and downtown Conway for a low-key outing. New Jersey has depth in Ocean County ranch communities, including Holiday City and Silver Ridge, with Community Medical Center in Toms River and Ocean University Medical Center in Brick as the hospital names to know. Farther north, the drives to Verona and Kearny are shorter, and Chilton Medical Center in Pompton Plains is the hospital to keep in mind when you are up that way.

In both places, the preference is that you own the home and the land. Land leases and co-ops exist, and it helps to recognize them on a listing. That is so you can spot them, not a push toward any one community. Plan for a monthly total near or under about $2,100 in South Carolina and near or under about $2,300 in Ocean County, New Jersey. That total includes tax, insurance, the community fee, and the mortgage or the cash cost of housing. Those ceilings are planning budgets for this search. They are not appraisals.
